My Journey into Cloud Computing and Web Hosting

Introduction
Technology is changing very quickly, and cloud computing has become an important part of modern IT. I started learning about Linux, AWS, web hosting, and server administration to understand how websites and applications work in real-world environments.
This journey has helped me learn not only the theory but also how to configure and manage servers practically.
Learning Linux Server Administration
Linux is one of the most commonly used operating systems for web servers. During my learning process, I worked with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and learned how to manage servers using the command line.
Some of the important things I learned include:
- Installing and managing packages
- Managing users and permissions
- Working with files and directories
- Managing system services
- Configuring web servers
- Checking logs and troubleshooting errors
- Understanding SELinux
- Managing network services
Working directly with a Linux server helped me understand how websites operate behind the scenes.
Exploring AWS Cloud
I also started working with Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides many cloud services that can be used to host websites, applications, databases, and other resources.
Some AWS services I explored include:
- Amazon EC2
- Amazon S3
- Elastic Load Balancing
- Auto Scaling
- Amazon RDS
- AWS Lambda
- Amazon EFS
- Amazon SNS
- Amazon CloudWatch
One of the interesting things about AWS is that servers and other resources can be created and managed whenever they are needed.
Web Hosting and WordPress
Another important part of my learning journey has been web hosting. I learned how a domain name connects to a server and how a web server delivers website content to visitors.
I also configured a WordPress website using:
- Nginx
- PHP
- PHP-FPM
- MariaDB
- WordPress
- DNS
WordPress makes it easier to create and manage websites without having to build everything from scratch.
Learning Through Practical Work
Practical tasks have been one of the most useful parts of my learning experience. Instead of only reading about technologies, I practiced configuring them on servers.
I worked with different technologies such as:
- Docker
- Jenkins
- Nagios
- AWS Auto Scaling
- Load Balancers
- Git and GitHub
- WordPress
- Nginx
- MariaDB
These practical exercises helped me understand how different technologies work together.
What I Learned
Through these experiences, I learned that troubleshooting is an important skill for a system administrator. Sometimes a configuration may look correct but still not work because of permissions, networking, DNS, SELinux, or service configuration.
The most important lesson I learned is:
Don’t just memorize commands. Understand what the command is doing and why it is needed.
Conclusion
My journey into cloud computing and web hosting is still continuing. Every practical task gives me an opportunity to learn something new and improve my technical skills.
I hope to continue learning technologies such as AWS, Linux, DevOps, automation, containers, and cloud security.
